Frederick Whymper (1838¿ 1901) was a British traveler, artist, explorer, and writer, who also spent part of his life in Canada and the United States, where he founded the San Francisco Art Association. Through the years of his travels by steamship, he collected data and illustrations of Kamchatka, Alaska, Cariboo, California, and many other territories that laid the basis for his works on maritime history.
