"The Fortune-Telling House" is a tale about an adventure in a haunted house. Sam Laske is a newspaperman en route to meeting a man about a job. On the way, his motor cycle runs out of fuel and he heads to the nearest town to buy some. There he meets and befriends the bar keeper cum owner of the hotel where he is to spend the night. As the two men relax at the bar in the evening, they are suddenly interrupted by a tramp, thirsty for a drink. When the tramp shows a large sum of gold coins, the two men are intrigued. The tramp tells them he found the coins at the nearby abandoned Darrington House, an old abandoned mansion that is said to be haunted
