JOHN PILLING is well-known for his many books and essays on Beckett, <EM>Samuel Beckett</EM> (1976), <EM>Frescoes of the Skull</EM>, with James Knowlson (1979), <EM>Beckett Before Godot</EM> (1997), <EM>A Companion to 'Dream of Fair to Middling Women'</EM> (2004), among others. He is also a past editor of the <EM>Journal of Beckett Studies</EM> and Director of The Beckett International Foundation (1993-2004).
