Raised in a lab (alongside a chimp) by a brilliant, but misguided scientist, a young boy is trained to be a killing machine. But the young boy, Jan, is clever enough to escape from the lab and make it out into the surrounding swamp with his chimp mentor at his side.

Otis Adelbert Kline (July 1, 1891 - October 24, 1946) born in Chicago, Illinois, was a songwriter, an adventure novelist and literary agent during the pulp era. Much of his work first appeared in the magazine Weird Tales. Kline was an amateur orientalist and a student of Arabic, like his friend and sometime collaborator, E. Hoffmann Price.
