<p>Valerie Sherrard is the author of the young adult novel<i>Kate</i> (2003) and the best-selling<i>Shelby Belgarden Mysteries</i>. She has had an Honour Book in the Red Maple Award and been nominated for the Arthur Ellis Award for Juvenile Fiction. She is the executive director of a group home for adolescents and has fostered more than seventy teenagers.</p>
