This book is for students and professionals of any discipline interested in renewable energy for a sustainable future of mankind. Batteries, fuel cells, capacitors, electrolyzers and solar cells are explained from the molecular level to the power plant level, in their historical development, in their economical and political impact, and social change. Fossil fuels and biomass energy are shown for comparison. Cases from geophysics and astronomy show that electrochemistry is not confined to the small scale. Examples are shown and exercised.

Autorenportrait

Artur Braun is a Berkeley trained Physicist from RWTH Aachen with a PhD in Electrochemistry from ETH Zürich. Braun is author/co-author of over 150 publications. His field of expertise is the structure and charge transport in materials for energy storage and conversion, and their assessment with neutron scattering and x-ray spectroscopy. Braun has authored three books with De Gruyter, some in consecutive editions.
