Zusatztext

Ulrike Treusch analyzes the life and writings of Bernard of Waging and discusses his late medieval monastic theology. Bernard ( 1472), Benedictine monk of Tegernsee, was one of the leading thinkers of the 15th century reform of Melk (Austria), which more than 100 Benedictine monasteries in Austria, Bavaria and Swabia followed until 1470. His writings as well as his correspondence with Nicolaus Cusanus and Nicholas of Dinkelsbühl show Bernard as a reformer seeking the renewal of monasticism and the Roman church. For the first time, in this book Bernard's partly inedited theological writings are analyzed in their contemporary context as well as in their reception of medieval scholastic and monastic theology. The book is the first monographic study on Bernard, his writings and the theology of the late medieval monastic movement of Melk.
