Zusatztext
Recent years have seen a growing interest in approaches that try to place the New Testament within its original context. A joint conference of New Testament exegetes and epigraphists in Vienna in February 2014 brought together experts to explore possibilities and avenues for a more systematic study of the epigraphical material and its relevance for interpreting the New Testament. The proceedings of this conference illustrate the various ways that epigraphical material provides a treasure trove of insights for understanding Early Christianity and its writings. Papers in this volume deal with questions of methodology, different genres of inscriptions, and with different topics that also all have a direct impact on New Testament studies.
