The cross is the tremendum of theology and its fascinosum . The cross as a rupture of interpretations marks the Other of the media of religion. The cross breaks open the possibilities for the media of religion: in word, writing and image of the cross. Theology of the cross thus becomes the phobic prolegomena of medial theology.
