-       There is yet to be published a more comprehensive book specifically on city forests from an international perspective.-       The book takes a unique view on the relationships between cities and their forests, through a cultural and social lens, and giving city forests their place within larger forestry, urban planning, green infrastructure debates. -       The book offers a rich amount of case studies and examples from across the world, based on the authors unique experience and global urban forestry work.

Dr Cecil Konijnendijk, a Dutch national based in Vancouver, British Columbia, has studied and promoted the role of woodlands and trees in urban societies throughout his career. After employment in the Netherlands, Denmark, Finland, Sweden and Hong Kong, he started as professor of urban forestry at the University of British Columbia in 2016. His present work includes, among other, research, teaching, advising urban forestry practitioners, and writing about urban forestry issues. He has coordinated several international networks and research projects dealing with city forests and other green space. Cecil is also editor-in-chief of the scientific journal Urban Forestry & Urban Greening, and series editor of Springers Future City book series.
