Daniel M. Alongi is lead consultant at Tropical Coastal and Mangrove Consultants after previously working as a Senior Principal Research Scientist at the Australian Institute of Marine Science. His research interests include biogeochemistry and ecology of tropical coastal and mangrove ecosystems.<div>He has published over 150 papers on various aspects of tropical marine and coastal ecosystems and has published three previous books. He has served on the editorial boards of a number of journals such as Estuarine, Coastal and Shelf Science, Marine Ecology Progress Series and Wetland Ecology & Management and is currently serving on the editorial boards of Journal of Marine Science and Engineering and Indian Journal of Marine Science.</div>
