Gegen Ende des 17. Jahrhunderts begann man an protestantischen deutschen Gymnasien, erstmals selbstständige Unterrichtsstunden in Universalgeschichte abzuhalten. In diesem Band werden zwei der verbreitetsten Lehrbücher der Epoche vorgestellt, ihre Verwendung im Schulunterricht verfolgt und ihre historiographische Konstruktion diskutiert.
