The textbook conveys the theoretical basics of the mechanical recycling process, supported by numerous and detailed practical examples, calculation examples, as well as a treatment of typical examination tasks with corresponding solutions. First, the basics of waste management and circular economy are covered in order to give students an insight into the networking of the topic covered. The next chapters deal with particle properties, material flow, bulk materials, several separation procedures and finally the design and operation of recycling plants.

Rainer Bunge studied mining at the Technical University of Clausthal and earned his doctorate in mineral processing technology at UC-Berkeley. After working in the Swiss recycling industry, he moved to the Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences OST, where he gave lectures on recycling until his retirement. As a lecturer at ETH Zurich, he taught the "Waste Recycling Technologies" course for many years. The innovative processes and machines he developed led to around 40 patents. He was one of the 10% of OST professors with the best teaching evaluations and was also awarded the "Swiss Environmental Prize".
