The purpose of this study is to explore selected writings for horn, voice, and piano, providing performance considerations for the hornist. Text, musical structure, and the use of the horn will be considered. The specific works explored in depth will be Schuberts Auf Dem Strom, Brittens Still Falls the Rain and Granthams La Noche en la Isla. These three contrasting works represent different eras, different voice types, and pose different challenges for the hornist. A compiled listing of all the works found by the author (for horn, voice and piano) is included as part of the study. This extensive listing of the works for horn, voice and piano will serve as a reference for anyone interested in performing in this instrumentation.

Jon Mayhew Anderson lives in Miami, FL, where he performs with South Florida ensembles including New World Symphony, Florida Grand Opera, Miami City Ballet, Miami Symphony Orchestra, and Miami Brass Machine. Jon earned his D.M.A. from the University of Miami, his M.M from Boston University, and his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from UC Davis.
