In this study the researcher aims to explore the emerging oil and natural gas processes in the Republic of Uganda and the potential impacts that such exploration will generate upon Ugandas biodiversity and local livelihoods. The researcher will approach this topic through extensive research on emerging and current legal frameworks pertaining to Ugandas natural environment, and through practicum-based research via leading non-profit organizations in Uganda. During the research process the researcher worked as a Student Research Intern with International Alert. International Alert is an international Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that works to promote peace building and conflict resolution in over thirty countries worldwide. The researcher worked directly under International Alerts lead oil and natural Gas researcher in their Kampala, Uganda office.

Kristina Ericson is an undergraduate student at Long Island University's Global College: a four-year long study abroad program which presents students the opportunity to pursue a Bachelor's degree while living in over 10 different countries in four years. She is currently pursuing a degree in Global Studies and Environmental Sustainability.
