To comprehend modernism, we need to explore several definitions of modernism in order to make it comprehendible. In order to establish the relationship between modernism and humanity, it is necessary to be engaged with the concepts of modernism, modernisation, modernity and humanity. This will make clear the methodology of the study and will clarify what modern humanity means in this work. Several critics expressed their views about modernism. Pericles Lewis believes that the defenders and interpreters of modernism have oscillated between two related views: on the one hand, that modernism means an to all conventional forms of representation, and on the other hand that modernism means the creation of new conventions of representation, more appreciate than the old ones to the modern age Lewis states, (5).

Mariwan N H Barzinji has achieved BA. and MA. at Sulaiamni University, College of Languages. He is a Lecturer in English at Sulaiamni University, School of Basic Education. He is the author of The Image of Modern Man in T. S. Eliot's Poetry (Authourhouse 2012). He has been teaching literature to the undergraduate students since 2008.
