Zusatztext

The internationally renowned British master of contemporary landscape painting is presenting his 90-metre-long iPad frieze "A Year in Normandy" at Museum Würth 2 in Künzelsau, and thus for the first time in a German museum. David Hockney uses individual iPad paintings to compose his immediate surroundings over the course of the year, taking up the format of the famous Bayeux Tapestry from 1066 on the Battle of Hastings, which inspired the artist to create this continuum. Hockney studies his surroundings en plein air meticulously and with an intense gaze, carrying his constant companion, the iPad, with which he translates what he sees into an impressively luminous color band of the seasons. Another unique feature of the presentation of an iPad painting (on 68 fanfold pages) of this dimension is the dialog between the frieze from Normandy and Hockney's artworks from the Würth Collection. Pictorial motifs predominantly from his time in Yorkshire, northern England, thus encounter the northern French climes.
