We. Russian dystopia
Zusatztext
The fantastic dystopian novel "We" by E. Zamyatin was written in 1920 and significantly influenced the main dystopias of the twentieth century "Brave New World" by O. Huxley and "1984 "George Orwell. The novel "We" describes a society of strict totalitarian control over the individual (names and surnames are replaced by letters and numbers, the state controls even intimate life), ideologically based on the denial of fantasy, governed by a "Benefactor" who is "elected" on a non-alternative basis. The proposed edition contains not only the legendary dystopian novel, but also a number of journalistic articles describing the writer's political views, his attitude to the historical events of which he became an eyewitness. "True literature can only be where it is made not by executive and complacent officials, but by madmen, hermits , heretics, dreamers, rebels, skeptics" (article "I'm afraid").
