'What is hidden, is preserved.' This book delves into the courses and effects of different types of alienation as posited in selected works by the Kenyan writer Yusuf Dawood. As most actions start from within, Freudian Psychoanalysis is used in trying to unravel these, further opening the dialogue on how to deal with them. Is alienation always negative? Is literature abating or abetting alienation? Can literature be used to mitigate these effects and if so how? The meticulous approach on the issues as used by the author can be applicable to many other texts and discourses. Maurice Simbili Mwichuli has been a teacher of English Language and Literature in various High schools in Kenya and a lecturer in Literature in a number of Kenyan universities for over a decade. He is currently a Doctoral candidate and lecturer at the Kenyatta University.
