Zusatztext
The jute industry is labour intensive and contributes sizably to export earning apart from providing direct employment in India. There are studies on several aspects of jute industry and workers that produce fresh jute gunny bags. The gunny bags produced are used again and again. In the use process, there emerges a demand for repairing them for further use. Informal units are functioning in and around trading centers/towns all over India to meet such demand. A search of literature showed that there is neglect of studies on the gunny bags repair workers in informal entities. This book addresses this by conducting a study among gunny bags repair workers in the informal units in Kottappatty village near Dindigul Corporation of Tamil Nadu state, India. As such the study seeks to examine the background and economic condition of gunny bags repair workers, and to ascertain the perceptions and opinions of gunny bag repair workers on the units and their work condition.
