Buffaloes in marshes of southern Iraq represent the most productive animal for meat and milk. Domesticated buffaloes rendered to many serious diseases, e.g. Rinder pest as well as many bacterial infections, mainly hemorrhagic septicemia leading to a dangerous decline in buffalo population. Renewed interest was undertaken by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Ministry of Agriculture after the American war in 2003. This book focuses the light on some bacteria isolated directly from buffaloes or indirectly from ticks infesting buffaloes. As a result, this may prone buffaloes in marshes in the south of Iraq to be affected by many diseases.

Abdulkarim Jafar Karim was born in 1st September 1959, Baghdad, Iraq. He graduated from College of Veterinary Medicine, Baghdad in 1982, ranking the 9th out of 262 students. He completed his MSc in Department of Veterinary Medicine, Baghdad in 1988 and pursued his PhD in 2010 at UPM, Malaysia.
