This is an examination of John Calvin's thinking on several pertinent issues in theology, spirituality, education, missions, and his doctrine of vocation. The author has endeavored to allow Calvin to speak for himself, and to relate the cardinal features of his belief to subjects which have aroused the interest of Christians since biblical days. This effort concludes with a comparative study of John Calvin and Martin Luther.

Since 2001 James E. McGoldrick jas been professor of Church HIstory at Greenville Presbyterian Seminary in South Carolina, where he specializes in Reformation studies. He has piublished extensively in that field since obtaining the Ph.D. from West Virginia University.
