Heavy metal pollution is a great concern in the present world. Rivers are the most affected site since various industries are the prime contributor of huge amount of these metals. These metals are long persistence in nature, bioaccumulate and biomagnify in the food chain. By this way these metals create many carcinogenic disease in human and aquatic organisms. Heavy metals pollution of river water become the major quality problems in fast developing towns. Authors assessed the heavy metal concentrations in fish, water and sediment of the Meghna River, the Halda River and the Old Brahmaputra River. They also mentioned some toxic effects of these metals in living body. Profile of heavy metals in river will help the scientists, researchers and policy makers. Authors are working on these three river to find out the pollution level.

Md. Simul Bhuyan is a young scientist who completed his MSc in 2014 from University of Chittagong. In 2016, he published a book named "Effects of Industrialization on Fish and Fishing Community". He published 30 research articles in different recognized journals. He is now working on heavy metals of Shittalakhya river and Saint Martin Island.
