Germany is a democratic state with a constitution based on the foundations of the Basic Law. One problem is that more than 60 percent of the people's representatives are civil servants and a large part of the population with extensive professional experience is not taken into account sufficiently. Politics and business are drifting further and further apart. The author refers to the period before the Second World War, when Germany slid unchecked into chaos because the people no longer felt represented by their politicians.
