Zusatztext

This book aims at capturing the most recent advancements and research in the field of radar meteorology. It features the select research presented at the 6th conference on India Radar Meteorology (iRad-2024), held at the Indian Institute of Technology Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India, from 10-12 January 2024. The book provides a comprehensive and insightful resource for students, researchers, and professionals working in radar meteorology and atmospheric sciences. The key feature of the book is its multidisciplinary approach, bringing together scientists from various domains of radar technology and meteorology. The book covers the latest innovations in radar system design, signal processing techniques, radar data assimilation methods, and advanced applications in weather forecasting, climate monitoring, and severe weather detection which have significant societal impact.

Autorenportrait

V. Chandrasekar is Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Colorado State University, USA. He has made pioneering contributions to the area of polarimetric radar observations of the atmosphere. He is coauthor of several textbooks: Polarimetric and Doppler Weather Rada and Probability and Random Processes. He is a Co-PI and the Deputy Director of the NSF Engineering Research Center, Center for Collaborative Adaptive Sensing of the Atmosphere (CASA), where he serves as the research director and provides leadership for the sensing research thrust. He was an elected Fellow of IEEE, the American Meteorological Society, and CIRA in recognition of his contributions to quantitative remote sensing. He has won numerous awards including the NASA Technical Innovation Award in 2002, Cermack Outstanding Advisor Award in 2001, etc. Saurabh Das is Associate Professor in the Department of Astronomy, Astrophysics, and Space Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India. He received his PhD in radiophysics and electronics from the University of Calcutta, West Bengal, India, and his M.Sc. in physics from the IIT Roorkee, Uttrakhand, India. Recipient of a number of Young Scientist awards and fellowships from different organizations like URSI, SERB, DST, etc., he has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed research papers in reputed international journals. He has also served as PI of several externally funded projects from ISRO, DST, and SERB. His current research interests include radar meteorology, GNSS remote sensing, wave propagation through the atmosphere and ionosphere, and machine learning applications in atmospheric science problems. Abhirup Datta is Professor in the Department of Astrophysics, Space Engineering and Data Science at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India. He joined the same department as Assistant Professor, in 2015. Earlier, he was Senior Research Associate at the Centre of Astrophysics and Space Astronomy, University of Colorado, Boulder, USA, as well as a NASA Postdoctoral Fellow. He did his PhD from New Mexico Tech/NRAO (National Radio Astronomy Observatory) in Socorro, USA. He is PI of several ongoing and completed sponsored research projects in India and abroad and has published more than 90 publications in international journals. His research interests are primarily in observational cosmology at low radio frequencies, including in radio astronomy from ground and space, including RF instrumentations for space and ground including RADARs and space weather.
